Moss rubber/Moos rubber

Moss rubber or “”Moos rubber”” is a type of cellular rubber, but with an open cell structure. In the case of profiles or molded products, for example, the outside may be closed so that it does not absorb water.

With moss rubber products without the closed skin, moss rubber is a kind of sponge rubber and can then absorb liquids such as water.

What is moss rubber?

Moss rubber or “”Moos rubber”” is a type of cellular rubber with a predominantly open cell structure and is therefore also known as “”sponge rubber.””

Extruded Moss rubber profiles and Moss rubber molded products have a closed skin all around, which makes the product waterproof.

If moss rubber is sufficiently compressed, as is often the case with seals, it can provide a good seal despite its more open structure

During the extrusion process, the deformable material is pressed through a mold. Moss rubber or Moos rubber profiles can be supplied in rolls, or cut to size. Strips can also be cut from sheet material and provided with a self-adhesive coating if desired.

Moss rubber profile of natural rubber has relatively good mechanical properties and returns to its original shape when pressed. Provided the profile has the closed skin all around, moisture cannot enter the open cell structure of the rubber.

EPDM moss rubber

Moss rubber can also be made of EPDM. This moss rubber has good weather, UV and ozone resistance. EPDM is available in a variety of profiles, such as round or rectangular profiles, D-profiles, and P-profiles. FoBan also supplies custom-made EPDM moss rubber profiles, for example for water barrier systems.

Silicone moss rubber

Silicone moss rubber can withstand very high temperatures up to 200-230°C. It is also highly resistant to external weather conditions, being waterproof and able to withstand water and moisture.

Moreover, the material does not age quickly. A number of silicone moss rubber types are suitable for use in food processing according to the FDA “”white list.”” Therefore, this material is widely used for seals on such items as doors, shutters, ovens and boilers where it may come into contact with food products. Moss rubber is also available in round, semi-circular and rectangular profiles.
