In industry, rubber rings are used in many types and sizes in just as many types of production processes. FoBan supplies various types of rings to, for example, the food industry such as the dairy industry and beer breweries. Examples include milk clutch rings according to DIN 11851.

For S.K.S. we exclusively supply their Sanitary coupling rings with EHEDG quality mark.

The O-ring

One of the rubber rings we supply is the O-ring . These rings are available in different materials such as NBR, CR, EPDM, KFM and silicone.

O-rings are used for many diverse seals, mostly static but also dynamic.

So usually O-rings and O-ring cords are used as seals in cylinders or as gaskets. But there are also other applications where O-rings come in handy. The most commonly used rubber type for O-rings and O-ring cords is NBR rubber, but we can also supply rubber rings in EPDM, Viton and silicone rubber. O-ring NBR

NBR is the most commonly used material for O-rings because of its good mechanical properties and resistance to lubricating oils and greases containing mineral oil. These properties are largely determined by its acrylonitrile content (ACN between 18% and 50%). A low ACN content offers great flexibility at cold temperatures, but limited resistance to oils and motor fuels. As the ACN content increases, flexibility at cold temperatures decreases, but offers greater resistance to oils and motor fuels. By default, our NBR O-rings have a medium ACN content, making them useful for many applications. Note that NBR is generally not resistant to aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons, high aromatic motor fuels, polar solvents, glycol-based brake fluids and the HFD flame-retardant fluids. NBR material is also less resistant to ozone, weathering and aging.

O-rings in EPDM

O-rings in EPDM are mostly available from stock in various sizes. Rings in EPDM materials are highly resistant to hot water, steam, aging and chemicals.

As a result, many thermal applications are possible. They are divided into sulfur and peroxide vulcanized types, with the peroxide mixtures being capable of higher thermal loads and exhibiting a significantly lower deformation residual (compression set).

EPDM is also highly resistant to detergents, soda and alkalis, silicone oils and silicone greases, many polar solvents and various dilute acids and chemicals.

Viton® / FKM O-rings

Viton® O-rings have good resistance to high temperatures and chemicals. They also have excellent resistance to influences such as aging and ozone. They are suitable for vacuum applications because of their low gas permeability. In addition, they are hardly flammable. As standard, the Viton® O-rings have good resistance to mineral oils and greases, aliphatic aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons, motor fuels, the flammable HDF fluids and many organic solvents and chemicals. These O-rings are available on request in various special rubber special compounds and can be customized for special applications. In general, we can report that Viton® O-rings do not have good resistance to hot water, water vapor (steam), polar solvents, glycol-based brake fluids and low-molecular organic acids.
